Record success for NZ’s leading  build, design and textile show

Outstanding success of the recent big trade show BuildNZ designEXNZ Plush is now endorsed by feedback from international guests who have reported that the event was as good as any international show.

Statistics indicate that attendance was up some 18% on the 2005 event.  The 180 stands displaying the latest original and innovative technology in the building, design and fabric fields were viewed by a record 5737 visitors including many from overseas.  More than 300 visitors attended on more than one day.

Buyers and sellers report having done brisk business at the show which served a total of some 28 industry sectors and, for the first time, included leaders in fabrics at the Plush Textile Galleria.
Best exhibitor awards were won as follows.  For Build NZ;  Most Innovative Product was Pilkington’s adjustable balustrade, best Visual Stand was by APL, and best Using Exhibitions as a Medium was won by Sealtec.

For designEXNZ Plush;  Most Innovative Product was the Flameboyant range by Real Fires, best Visual Stand was by Charles Parsons, and best Using Exhibitions as a Medium was won by Electrolux.

The Plush & Furniture section of designEXNZ was a buzz of excitement from show opening to show close with thousands of metres of fabrics and textiles on display and highlighting new products from around the world.  Many guests attended the Plush Fashion Parade on more than one occasion as students from Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design showcased fabrics from within Plush Textile Galleria by creating exciting fashion garments.

The Vector Living Spaces feature designed and managed by Za Zu Interior Concepts was a tribute to all sponsors and exhibitors involved in its conception and construction.  It attracted thousands of visitors who not only enjoyed the interior and exterior finishes but also viewed through cut-away sections the construction methods and materials used.

The very successful seminar series this year again attracted significantly more architects, designers and other industry tradespeople and professionals to the show.  The keynote presentation from Kerry and Lindsay Clare was attended by some 250 people.  Also very popular over the three days was the Neil Henson presentation sponsored by Vector and Resene.  Registered Master Builders and BRANZ provided excellent seminars for many people across the building and construction related industry.

Contributing strongly to success were all the major trade associations who exhibited in their own right, bringing an expanded level of education to the trades.

Looking back on the combined event, exhibitor accolades are numerous.  Says Roydon Woodcock, of Karndean:  “It was fantastic.  We met lots of high calibre customers and no time-wasters”.  Geoff Anderson of Escea says:  “For us it was very successful.  We were face-to-face with many architects and commercial designers looking for new trends”.

Martin Irvine of Warwick Fabrics says:  “It was an outstanding success – we were inundated for three days with visitors enjoying the synergy and momentum of the three shows”.  Says Graham Taylor of Maurice Kain:  “It was excellent – well attended by plenty of good calibre visitors”.
High Speed Doors’ Ross Le Breton praises the quality and quantity of sales leads they obtained for their entire range of products.  “We went through our supply of every brochure”, he says.
Royce Whitehead of Sealtec says:  “As our first building industry trade show it was extremely successful.  We met lots of people who mattered – and no rubbish”.

Peter Burghout of Registered Master Builders reports that the show was very successful.  “We positioned ourselves as a leadership brand and it worked.  Our stand was extremely popular with our members, visitors and other exhibitors”.

At BuildNZ over 40% of visitors had purchasing power of greater than $100,000.  Building materials were visitors’ main interest category and the most represented sectors were builders, building owners/managers, architects and architectural draughtspersons.

At designEXNZ, almost 50% of visitors identified their purchasing power as over $50,000.  Popular categories of product interest were Interior Design, Fabrics & Textiles and Blinds, Curtains, Shutters, and Hardware Accessories.

At Plush, most visitors were interested in curtain and soft furnishing materials.
Visitors’ prime objective was stated as “keeping abreast of new industry trends”, and “seeing and trialling new products”.

Many respondents stated their intention to visit the next BuildNZ designEXNZ Plush event which the organizers are planning to make even more successful when it runs again at the Auckland Showgrounds, Greenlane, from 28 – 30 June 2009.  “Almost 40% of the 2009 show has already been preferentially rebooked”, says Rob Lavender, Exhibition Sales Manager, dmgworldmedia (nz) ltd.  For further information contact roblavender@dmgworldmedia.com, tel: 09 976 8381.

Big Building Show Presents New Technology and Seminars
Ref:  DM34

Over one hundred stands presenting new technology and a series of topical seminars and breakfast forums will inspire visitors from all key sectors of the building industry at BuildNZ 07, which runs at the ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, from 24 to 26 June.

Billed as New Zealand’s largest and most important building industry expo, the two-yearly event features technology from manufacturers nationwide and around the world.  Visitor pre-bookings indicate keen interest from industry professionals from all regions of the country.

Visitors to BuildNZ will have the unique opportunity to inspect more than 80 additional stands at the prestigious designEXNZ trade show running concurrently at the same venue.  For the first time this year designEXNZ will incorporate Plush, New Zealand’s foremost fabrics and textiles show.
Speakers at the keynote lecture sponsored by Vector will be prominent Australian architects Lindsay and Kerry Clare.  Calling on 25 years of experience in both a small coastal practice and a large Sydney practice, they will describe outstanding features of the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and the recent Building C at the University of the Sunshine Coast.  Their lecture will be CPD accredited.

“People and Homes of the Future” will be the topic of a seminar presented by Neil Henson, principal of Fashion Bytes, a leader in forecasting social trends and how they will impact on design.  Neil has been a major independent operator in the Australian fashion industry for the past 25 years.

Both Registered Master Builders and Certified Builders will have a significant presence at BuildNZ, and the Department of Housing and the NZ Institute of Building will be involved.
Pieter Burghout, CEO of the Master Builders Federation, will make a presentation on Builder Prospects & Licensing – an Industry Perspective.

Trevor Pringle, Principal Writer at BRANZ, will present two valuable and relevant seminars.  Topic 1 is E2/AS1 Risk Matrix – a tool that allows designers to analyse the weather tightness risk of a particular building design.  Topic 2 is a look at some really good design and the demands of detailing good buildings, followed by a “bloopers” section that looks at construction gone bad.
This year’s BuildNZ will be laid out in an open plan grid for easy navigation by visitors from 24 industry sectors including builders, building owners and managers, architects, property developers, interior designers, building supply merchants, engineers, contractors, plumbers and many other trades.

The calibre of stands will be enhanced as exhibitors compete for awards presented, as in previous BuildNZ events, for Best Stand at the show in large and small categories.

The first public presentation to architects of a thermally efficient range of residential windows and doors will be made by Architectural Profiles Ltd (APL).  These “Thermal Heart” products include an insulator or “thermal break” between the aluminium interior and exterior to dramatically reduce the transmission of cold and condensation, especially when double-glazed units are included.
Also launched at BuildNZ will be the new LEVEL web-based tool presented by BRANZ to guide trade users through the application of sustainability to building houses.  BRANZ will also feature a display explaining the value of their Appraisal system, and celebrating the 100th issue of their magazine “Build”.

A large area has been allocated to plumbing with Plumbing World and their suppliers having major presence.  European-made quality bathroom and kitchen tap wear, toilets, baths and vitreous china fittings will be displayed by Hydrotech Sanitär.

A patented Italian-designed system producing structural dome flooring will be presented by Cupolex Building Systems.  Now made in NZ under licence, the system uses interlocking domes made from 100% recycled plastic to quickly produce commercial and residential floors which require less concrete and reinforcing steel.

The world leader in insulated panel systems for roofing and architectural walls will be demonstrated for the first time at BuildNZ by Kingspan.  Providing fast, environmentally sustainable construction, these panels guarantee thermal performance and feature a PIR Firesafe core.

A new range of pvc windows popular in European and US markets will be launched in New Zealand by Rehau.  The company will also display a hot-and-cold behind-the-wall plumbing system, and underfloor heating.

For the modern concept brick home, Monier will present a new range of designer-coloured bricks, 400 x 400 mm clay pavers and roofing tiles in the latest design shapes and colours.  This diverse range is said to be the only one made in New Zealand.

Very efficient flow, less pressure drop and cost economy are all claimed by Iplex Pipelines for a new plastic gas pipe and fitting system.  Plastic systems for hot and cold water, and soil and waste, will also be displayed.

On one of the biggest stands at BuildNZ, Sealtec will feature a new generation of seamless protective coating systems for timber, concrete, steel and most other substrates.  Applied by spray, brush or roller, these systems are cost effective, environmentally friendly and come in a very wide range of colours.

Free advice is available to exhibitors for organizing professional publicity before, during and after the show.  Visitors who make major purchases are encouraged to communicate with the Press Officers who will aim to report the most successful exhibits in the leading trade media.  Official publications for the show are Info-Link, and Houses, from AGM Publishing.

Triple Show Event Attracts Latest Technology
Ref:  DM33

Three concurrent trade shows broadly serving the building sector will run at the ASB Showgrounds in June, providing industry exhibitors with the best platform ever for reaching all segments of the market.

Stand bookings have now risen to over 150 for the combined shows BuildNZ, designEXNZ and Plush, with more than half rebooking from the previous event two years ago.  With leading industry names in New Zealand among the exhibitors, several stands have been booked direct by overseas companies.  Several exhibitors are bringing-in international principals.
The three-day event running from 24 to 26 June includes topical seminars and breakfast forums addressed by industry experts.  Vector will sponsor keynote speakers Lindsay and Kerry Clair whose lecture will span 25 years of architectural practice, describing the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and the recent Building C at the University of the Sunshine Coast.  They will cover aspects of both a small coastal practice and a large Sydney practice.  The lecture will be CPD accredited.

Says Jo Anderson, Vector senior marketing specialist, “BuildNZ is a highly relevant vehicle for us to showcase our suite of electricity, gas and smart technologies to specifiers and builders who play a key role in the design of residential and commercial developments of the future.  We aim to add value to their developments and make it easy for them to incorporate energy and communications into their designs”.

BuildNZ incorporating the Plumbing Distributors Association trade show is billed as the largest and most important industry event bringing specifiers face-to-face with the latest technology.  Over 4800 people visited the show in 2005, with more than two-thirds of these holding direct corporate purchasing authority.

designEXNZ this year incorporates for the first time Plush, New Zealand’s foremost fabrics and textiles trade show.  This prestigious event will feature the latest in interior and exterior designs for contemporary flooring, lighting, joinery, bathroom ware and fittings, surface and wall coverings and much more.

The combined show will cover five exhibition halls laid out for the convenience of visitors from 24 industry sectors including builders, building owners and managers, architects, property developers, interior designers, building supply merchants, engineers, plumbers and many other trades.
First showing in New Zealand of the acid etched glass Optifloatä Opal will be presented by Pilkington.  Frosted on one side for aesthetic appeal and privacy in indoor/outdoor use, this glass is smooth, stain resistant and relatively inexpensive.

A giant very-high-resolution LCD screen on the Salesoft stand will demonstrate the latest Autodesk Revit CAD solution which enables many users to dovetail simultaneously on the same plan with structural, civil, CPM, MEP and architecture packages.
A range of large kitchen and laundry appliances designed following extensive research into satisfying customer needs and lifestyles will be demonstrated by Electrolux.  These products are designed especially for the Australasian market.
New outdoor upholstered furniture which makes no compromise on fashion or comfort will receive its first showing by Finewood upholstery.  The range is furnished in stylish solution-dried acrylic which is resistant to UV, mildew, rain and fading.

A range of interior blinds for domestic and commercial applications will be demonstrated by SP Blinds.  Featuring outstanding quality and using exclusive international fabrics, these products have many innovative features and are available only to wholesale buyers.
Three New Zealand-made stainless steel bathroom developments will be launched by Feltonmix.  They include a wall mounted shower tower, a free standing bath filler and an accessory mounting bracket for glass walls.

An internet-remote control system for modern gas fires will be demonstrated by Escea.  Providing I-con phone and internet switching options, this technology gives modern lifestylers greater flexibility.

Exhibitors and visitors to Plush will be invited to attend a networking function hosted by James Dunlop, Charles Parsons, Maurice Kain and others.

Show organizers dmg world media are offering exhibitors a range of promotional opportunities which can be individually customized.  These include show bags, giveaways, lanyards, spot prizes, seminars and branded café/bar facilities.

Bookings heavy for biggest building show
Ref:  DM31
The biggest national building industry show for qualified visitors, BuildNZ 07, will run at the recently enlarged ASB Showgrounds venue at Greenlane, Auckland, from 24 to 26 June.

Stands have already been booked by more than 50 organisations including several from Australia, with many further bookings expected shortly. Exhibitors will benefit from visitor numbers boosted by buyers attending the DesignEXNZ/Plush 07 trade show running concurrently in adjacent halls at the same venue. The combined event is expected to draw a record number of top-quality visitors from throughout New Zealand.

BuildNZ 07 is aimed at some 25 industry sectors including builders, building owners and managers, architects and draftspersons, property developers, interior designers, merchants and many trade groups. Visitors to the last BuildNZ in 2005 came from all districts and as far away as Invercargill.

Again this year the show will feature a programme of topical seminars and breakfast forums addressed by industry experts. Full details, with opportunities for exhibitors and visitors to secure seats at these events, will soon be announced.

Over 25% of visitors will again be likely to have purchasing power exceeding $500,000. For previous shows, audited statistics indicate that almost half the visitors asked for a quote or appointment at the event.
Organisers dmg world media advise that stand bookings for BuildNZ 07 reveal much interest from the aluminium joinery sector. An Award will again be presented for the best stand.
The largest stand this year will be presented by Fletcher Aluminium featuring exclusive high-performance window and door products. These will include a unique top-rolling option for doors and windows, and a bifold door that can go past 90 against cladding. On the same stand visitors will be able to inspect the latest range of channels, tubes, louvre blades and other custom designs.

First presentation at a trade show of the X-panel rapid bracing system will be made by CBW Canbrace. Available in options to meet NZS3604 or higher, this bracing can be fitted at the prenail stage and eliminates the need for temporary bracing. It is not damaged by rain.
Two new systems displayed by James Hardie will be the new lightweight cladding Axon Panel, and the structural cavity batten CLD. Axon can be painted in any colour and provides exceptional performance in harsh conditions. CLD enables Titan façade panels to be installed without the fixing penetrating the framing.
A range of polybutene-1 pipe and brass fittings with high performance characteristics and a 25-year guarantee will be shown by Dux. This Secura Gold range is for hot and cold-water plumbing and provides excellent flow rates, low thermal expansion and excellent freeze/thaw resistance.

Aluminium windows containing a unique insert to provide a thermal break will be launched by APL Ltd. Claimed to yield the highest thermal efficiency currently available, these extrusions are expected to meet stricter regulations coming from the government.
BuildNZ 07 will incorporate the Plumbing Distributors Association trade show. Sponsorship opportunities are available from the organisers -for example bags, lanyards, seminars, Business Centre and a visitor door prize.

For a comprehensive package of information contact Exhibition Sales Manager Rob Lavender, roblavender@nz.dmgworldmedia.com, tel: 09 976 8381 or visit www.buildnz.com.
