Labour Government Leaders to Front “KiwiBuild” Industry at buildnz
Hot off the heels of winning Best Trade Show in Australasia* buildnz today announced the lead theme for their upcoming 2018 exhibition “Delivering on KiwiBuild.”
Hon. Phil Twyford, recently appointed Minister for Housing and Urban Development and Transport, and Hon. Jenny Salesa Minister for Building and Construction will both front the panel at buildnz 2018 - outlining the KiwiBuild plan and sitting with a panel of industry leaders to collaborate and work through the challenges of meeting the Government’s target to deliver on 100,000 high quality, affordable new homes over 10 years, with 50% of them in Auckland.**
“I’m looking forward to returning to buildnz” says Phil. “It’s a great opportunity to talk face-to-face with the people in this vital industry who together will allow us to build more and build better for the good of New Zealand.”
Phil is no stranger to buildnz’s 5,000+ industry attendees having officially opened the event in 2015 and as a keynote speaker in 2017, sharing his support and vision for industry innovation shortly prior to the election that brought Labour to power***.
Furthermore, buildnz 2017 played host to Hon. Winston Peters, now Deputy Prime Minister who officially opened the show to much cheer from the 250+ exhibitors and a large group of visiting builders, architects, planners and developers.
National Events Director of the 30 year strong show Tony Waite says “We’re humbled that Phil and Jenny wish to commit their valuable time to front the industry at buildnz 2018. The Kiwibuild strategy deserves the full attention of the industry to engage, collaborate and buy into the plan. The industry has been talking for years about the issues of qualified recruitment shortages, the growing cost of materials and difficulties fast-tracking major housing projects. This forum gives the reigning Government the opportunity to communicate and deliver on new solutions with industry.”
“The phones have been ringing with industry leaders from local council bodies, trade associations and building company CEOs wanting to engage in this panel,” says Waite.
One of those industry leaders is Prefab NZ CEO Pamela Bell who is excited to join the pan-industry panel with Government and local government collaboration on the KiwiBuild promise.
Pamela is also intending to showcase the important role of Prefabrication. “The built environment industry simply has to innovate to keep up with changing demographics, housing needs and disruptive technologies. PrefabNZ will use this great opportunity at buildnz to showcase innovative technology – highlighting the important role that prefabricated products and processes have in building homes better and faster.”
Buildnz is free to attend for all industry professionals and runs July 4th and 5th this year at the ASB Showgrounds Auckland. www.buildnz.com
