Residensity - urban housing and the dilemma of density

With the need to house increasing population there is the choice of continued suburban sprawl or creating higher density within urban centres, close to transport and infrastructure, with the traditional benefits of living in the centre of a city.

Ian Moore will discuss the work of his practice in this context, including adaptive re-use, infill buildings and urban renewal of brown field sites within the city.

Ian Moore was born in Warkworth New Zealand in 1958. He studied civil and structural engineering from 1976-79 at the Auckland Technical Institute while working with Beca Carter Hollings and Ferner in Auckland as a structural engineering technician, before moving to London to work with Ove Arup and Partners from 1980–83 on Norman Foster’s Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.

Ian moved to Sydney in 1983 to study architecture and graduated with Honours from the University of Technology, Sydney in 1988 and received a Master of Architecture degree from RMIT University, Melbourne in October 2000.

Ian Moore Architects was established in 1990. Over the past 25 years the work of the practice has won numerous national and international awards and has been exhibited extensively including the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2008 and 2012.
